Message from the Acting Principal
Kia ora koutou,

We have had a busy few weeks here at Mt Roskill Intermediate with so many wonderful things happening, along with the most important being Reading, Writing and Maths learning.

This afternoon we have held our end of term assembly. This is when we can recognise and celebrate our stand-out students. This term's recipients are:
Congratulations to all of our Term 3 award recipients!

Last week, 35 of our students headed off to sports camp in Matamata. They had a fantastic time and again bought home a selection of trophies to fill up our trophy cabinet. MRI came 3rd out of 10 other school teams which is a fantastic achievement. We are so proud of all these students in how they performed and how they represented our school in a such a positive way.
Last week was Te Wiki o te reo Māori (Māori language week) which was a special time for our Kura. Throughout the week, students participated in a number of activities and practised their Te Reo as they went about their days. Each lunch time we held Haka Battles between the Houses. On Friday the Grand Final was held, and, like last year, it was Kauri House once again who were crowned champions! Well done Kauri House!

Yesterday afternoon six students competed in the Year 7 Speech finals. Thank you to Lillian Rm 27, Dylan Rm 10, Sidon Rm 7, Tane Rm 28, Azubah Rm 27 and Juston Rm 12 for their impressive speeches. They entertained, challenged and amused the audience, using great eye contact, hand gestures and clever use of pause for effect. Congratulations to them all. Third place went to Tane, for encouraging us to pop down our devices and read a bit more. Second place went to Juston who convinced us that a trip to Tonga would be wonderful. And FIRST place went to Azubah, for reminding us to watch our words and use them as a positive super power.

Next term, when we head into the last busy school term for the year, we will be reminding all of our students about the importance of our school values of Care, Respect and Responsibility.
This starts with getting to school on time each and every day. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of being at school, in their classroom and ready to learn by our start time of 8.50am. The beginning of the school day is when a lot of important learning takes place and it sets the scene for the remainder of the school day, as well as establishing good habits for the future.
Wearing the correct school uniform is another important factor. We like to see all our students taking pride in themselves and our school by wearing their correct MRI uniform each day. This increases confidence and respect in themselves and others, and gives them a sense of belonging.
Thank you for supporting your children with achieving these important values.

We hope you all have a wonderful break these school holidays. Let's hope the sun will continue to shine and we look forward to seeing all our students return to school refreshed and ready for a fantastic Term 4. Don't forget that Daylight Savings starts this weekend.

School starts back on Monday 9 October at 8.50am.

Ngā mihi nui,

Tracey Hughes
Acting Principal / Tumuaki

There is a rise in Strep throat in our community at the moment. Strep throat can lead to Rheumatic Fever (RF) which can damage the heart (Rheumatic Heart Disease RHD). Our Māori and Pacific populations are most at risk.
