We hope you all had a wonderful school holiday. It was lovely to see all of the students back at school last week, refreshed, excited and happy to be here. This term is already shaping up to be a very busy one with lots of things happening.
On Tuesday night the Campus Māori Graduation was hosted at the Primary School. This was a special event for our Year 8 Māori and Kapa Haka students, where we came together to celebrate their achievements of the past two years as they graduate from Intermediate School. As a part of this evening, Year 6 students are passed onto us from Mt Roskill Primary and we pass our precious Year 8 students onto Mt Roskill Grammar School. Year 13 students are passed back to their whānau. It is a wonderful celebration to be a part of, celebrating their education journey.

Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is coming up in week 5 of this term. This is an important part of our education programme and we provide exciting, challenging and fun opportunities for our students to take part in. Consent forms with further information have gone home with all students and these are now due back, so if you haven't already, please return this signed consent form as soon as possible to their classroom teacher.
Your child's two years at Intermediate School is an ideal time to get involved in all of the extra curricular activities that are on offer here in our school. It's a great opportunity for students to move out of their comfort zones, challenge themselves and to have a go. Every term different options and opportunities are provided, so encourage your child to give something new a go before the end of the year!
As mentioned in last term's newsletter, it is important that students get to school on time each and every day. Students need to be at school, in their classroom, settled and ready to learn by our start time of 8.50am. Students arriving late into their classroom disrupt their peers and teacher, as well as their own learning. So much important learning happens first thing in the day and it's good to instil these time keeping habits in our students for future life.
Wearing the correct school uniform is another important factor. We like to see all our students taking pride in themselves and our school by wearing their correct MRI uniform each day.
Thank you for supporting your children with achieving these important values.
In week 4, we will be hosting the Puketāpapa Kāhui Ako Art Exhibition. This is a celebration of Art across our community of schools - come along to be inspired by the wonderful talent in our community - Mt Roskill Primary School, Dominion Road School, Three Kings Primary School, Hillsborough Primary School, Mt Roskill Intermediate School and Mt Roskill Grammar School. See our flyer below with the details.
Next week, we welcome back Principal Kristen Walsham, as she returns from her 10 week Study leave. We look forward to having her back with us again.
Don't forget this weekend is Labour Weekend. Monday (23 October) is a public holiday and school is closed. Enjoy the long weekend.

Sore Throats and Rheumatic Fever
There is a rise in Strep throat in our community at the moment. Strep throat can lead to Rheumatic Fever (RF) which can damage the heart (Rheumatic Heart Disease RHD). Our Māori and Pacific populations are most at risk.
Any students with a sore throat are advised to get it checked at their GP as soon as possible.
