Message from the Acting Principal
Kia ora koutou,

What a busy start we have had to this term. With Mrs Walsham away on Sabbatical Study leave, I am lucky enough to be Acting Principal this term.

On Monday afternoon we had our annual school cross country run. Children have been training for this for the past few weeks so they were well placed to run this event. Children run in their year and gender groups so this makes the event very competitive. It was great to see the kids out there having fun and doing the best they could. Even I joined in with the students and gave it my best shot!
Congratulations to the top eight students in each of the groups who will represent our school at the Central Zones competition on Thursday 24th August. We wish you all the best.
On Wednesday 9th August, we had a combined Pasifika Fono with Mt Roskill Primary School. This is where our culture groups from both schools showcased their amazing talents through a variety of Pasifika dances and songs. It is so heartwarming to see these students sharing their passion and love of their culture.
At the Fono, information was shared about enrolment for 2024 to both our school and Mt Roskill Grammar School (MRGS). If you have a year 6 student you are wanting to come to MRI next year, it is important you get the enrolment forms in to us as soon as possible. Especially if you are out of our zone. The cut off for Out of Zone enrolments is Wednesday 30 August.
Getting your enrolment paperwork in to us now, helps us with our planning and classroom placement for next year.
This cut-off date is also the same for MRGS, so if you haven't yet enrolled your Year 8 student for the Grammar school next year, please do so now.

This week, the Blake Trust have been visiting our Year 7 students. The Blake Trust is an amazing Virtual Reality(VR) programme which showcases underwater sites around Aotearoa and aims to connect and inspire students to care for our ocean and environment.

Each year the Life Education Caravan (Harold) visits our school. Harold is booked with us for the first five weeks of this term. All our Year 7 classrooms have been having sessions focusing on The Brain Nervous System, Managing our Emotions, Resilience and the differences between Rude/Mean/Bully, while all our Year 8 classes have been focusing on Peer-pressure, Self-esteem, and vaping.

This Sunday 13th August a group of students head off on our annual Ski Trip. We wish them all the best with lots of snow and hope it is not too cold for them in Queenstown. It's great to have our annual trips up and running again and next year we are committed to having our exchange to Japan happen again. We have missed seeing our friends from Munakata City in Fukuoka.

This coming Monday 14th August, Tickets are going on sale for our annual school production 'Man of Steel'. (see the flyer below).
They will be available to purchase before school and at morning interval in the office foyer. Our students have been working for months on this and it will be an extravaganza. Make sure you get in quickly before the show sells out.

As we head into the last couple of weeks of winter, may you all stay warm and healthy as we count down the days until Spring and warmer longer days are upon us.

Ngā mihi nui
