Whakapuāwai – To Thrive
Message from the Principal
The school year is now at an end. It has certainly been another historic year in which we have navigated flooding and cyclones at the start of the year which seriously impacted many of our families and our wider community. Thank you for the trust and support that you have shown as we were required to re-organise many of the Term one events and activities. Once again, the resilience our students demonstrated is a real credit to them, to our teachers and to whānau. Our Denbigh Ave Bridge remains out of access to vehicles, but we are hoping to have the replacement progressed by the Ministry of Education early in the new year.

Congratulations to our Year eight students as they move onto their secondary schooling. We look forward to continuing to follow their progress. Once MRI, you are MRI for life!

Congratulations to those students who were acknowledged at our Awards Assembly. Every one of our students, recognised or not, can be proud of what they have achieved in trying new things and the progress they made. We are very proud of them all.
Thank you to our families for your support this year, you are an important part of your child's success. We value your partnership.

Next year sees a number of our staff taking the opportunity to travel overseas, move out of Auckland for new opportunities or retire.
We wish Mr Russell, Food Technology Teacher and Ms Rosie Lee, classroom teacher, all the very best in their relocation out of Auckland. Our warmest best wishes also go to teachers Mr Pavel Granger, Miss Shanice Kemp and Mr Mark Prendergast who are all heading overseas for new adventures. We also wish Mr Mark Thompson, release teacher, and Mrs MeiMei Lee, long serving ATSSD in the Tennyson Centre, all the very best in their retirement. We greatly appreciate all they have contributed to MRI.

We are fully staffed for next year and have been fortunate to appoint quality replacement staff who are excited and looking forward to joining our school and community in 2024.

I would like to acknowledge the work of our wonderful staff who pour their heart and energy into making our school the best it can be for your children. This is evident in the great school that we are all a part of.

We all hope that 2024 brings good things for you and your family.
We look forward to continuing to work with you next year to support your children and help them achieve their goals and thrive at Intermediate School.

Kia hora te marino
Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana
kia tere te karo hi rohi i mua i to hua rahi
May peace be widespread
may the sea glisten like greenstone
and may the shimmer of light guide you on your way

Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou
Season’s Greetings for Christmas and the New Year!
