Message from the Acting Principal
The end of Term 2 is here already, which means we are half way through the year!

Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori, Happy Matariki! We hope that you had a great Matariki holiday with your family and friends. In week 8 we had our MRI Matariki Hāngi, this was a spectacular event. Our Kapa Haka students had been working tirelessly for weeks to perform for their whānau and what a stunning group they were. We are so proud of each and every one of them. For many students in our Kapa Haka group English is not their first language, so to see them in this performance realm is quite amazing. The performance was followed by a wonderful feast of Hāngi. We all went home with our hearts and bellies full.
For Matariki all of our Kāhui Ako schools contributed to and made a beautiful Matariki Video. You can view it here Kāhui Ako Matariki Video. Our kids were incredible and their talents are outstanding.
Last week was our annual art week. All classes were collapsed for the week and each student allocated an art group where they worked for the whole week on a piece of art. Many students were pushed out of their comfort zones and experienced activities they have not been exposed to previously.
The results are amazing and we were delighted to share all of this wonderful art with you at the art exhibition held on Wednesday.
Early next term is our School Open Days. This shows prospective families the many and varied opportunities that we have to offer at Mount Roskill Intermediate School and showcasing different curriculum and extra-curricular areas. Enrolments for both in zone and out of zone students are open. If you would like to attend or know of someone who may be interested, please see below flyer for more information.
For our year 8 students moving onto high school next year now is the time to get your enrolment forms into your school of choice. Especially so for those students who are applying for a secondary school out of zone.

Today, students received their mid-year report. This reports on your child's academic levels, effort, goals and achievement for the year to date. There will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher in week 3 of term 3 to discuss this progress. Booking information will be sent out to you at the start of Term 3.

The last few weeks has seen a flurry of sporting activities within and outside of school. Students had two sessions of Australian Rules Football led by coaches from AFL NZ. It was a blast for our students to access a new sport under the tutelage of expert coaches.
Week 8 was particularly busy, as we had teams participate in both Central Zones boys and girls hockey tournaments. Both teams competed hard in their respective tournaments, and showed massive improvement throughout the days. Thank you to Mrs Mary Hughes and Miss Kumar for all their hard work with the squads. That same week students competed at Central Zone Table Tennis and represented MRI well. This term we competed at a total of 11 central zone days and 2 inter-zone days. Thank you to all our coaches and parent supporters for making this happen.

I would like to extend my congratulations to all of you who received end-of-term awards at this afternoon's assembly. Your hard work and perseverance have truly paid off. See names of the award recipients below.

A reminder that the office will be closed over the holiday break, re-opening at the start of Term 3 on Monday 22 July. We hope all our families have a wonderful mid year break and enjoy lots of quality family time. We look forward to welcoming you all back for term 3!

Ngā mihi nui
