Message from the Acting Principal
What a busy time it has been at MRI these past few weeks. Classroom programmes are in full swing with a focus on the core subjects of reading, writing and maths. Children feel safe, valued and happy and are ready to be challenged and supported with their learning. This is evident as you walk around the school and see tamariki focused, engaged and on task, whether it be in the regular classroom, support programme or extension groups. It's inspiring to see children move out of their comfort zones, building confidence and resilience that ensures they are ready to embrace a changing world.
We are seeing our vision of Whakapuāwai - To Thrive in action. We can see our children starting to try many new things and experience the breadth of the curriculum that we have on offer in curriculum, sports and the arts.

In Week Six, we had over 500 families come through for our Talanoa Ako/Learning conversations. This was an opportunity for parents, teachers and students to meet, talk about learning and set goals for the future. This partnership is important as all three stakeholders come together to ensure students reach their full potential in their two years with us.

Last Friday we were incredibly fortunate to have the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Trophy come to our school. Mt Roskill Intermediate was the only school in NZ to have this honour. We welcomed FIFA delegates and representatives from Auckland City Football Club into our school with a moving and powerful Whakatau. To say we were proud of our students is an understatement.
For three years, Auckland City FC has been working with us to provide club-level coaching to our students. Every Friday, we have members of their first team coaching and inspiring our students. Friday was a chance to share in their special journey to the FIFA Club World Cup. Read more about it here from the Media Release. We wish Auckland City Football Club all the very best for this FIFA Club World Cup competition which kicks off in June.
This week our Year 8 students head out of school for EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom), where they are able to participate in a number of outdoor adventure type activities located at Ambury Farm, Lake Pupuke and here at school. Some of the activities on offer are Kayaking, Archery, Mountain Biking, Disc Golf, Camp cooking and Rock climbing.
Year 7 also have their Activity Week this week. Their activities are mostly based here at school, apart from their Owairaka Park Walk and Picnic which is taking place on Thursday.
This week allows for a great chance for both groups to experience a number of activities that they may not have had the opportunity to try before.
