AUCKLAND, NZ – July 29, 2025 – The Auckland Council Sport and Recreation Facilities Investment Fund on Tuesday confirmed a significant grant of $2.65 million to the Roskill School Community Trust, earmarked for the development of a state-of-the-art all-weather football turf on the grounds of Mt Roskill Intermediate. This substantial investment marks a critical step towards securing the anticipated $4.6 million funding for the project, enabling construction to commence on a world-class sporting facility.

The Roskill Schools Community Turf initiative embodies a powerful collaborative partnership, bringing together the cluster of Roskill Campus schools led by Mt Roskill Intermediate School (MRI), and the Ministry of Education (MOE) brought together by Auckland City FC . The shared vision is to deliver a premier facility that will not only serve the students of Mt Roskill but also provide immense benefits to the wider community and ultimately achieve the goal of encouraging more participation and more movement for our Tamariki and Rangatahi in the greater Roskill rohe.

"This strategic investment from Auckland Council is a monumental milestone for the Roskill Schools Community Turf project," stated Carl Maskell, Deputy Principal of Mt Roskill Intermediate and Roskill Schools Community Trustee. "It significantly advances our goal of securing the necessary funding for the project and allows us to break ground and deliver a truly world-class facility. We are deeply grateful to Auckland Council for their unwavering support and belief in this vital community asset."

Our Mt Roskill community has families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. This partnership directly addresses that, fostering inclusivity, promoting health, providing mentorship to young people through sport and developing a shared resource that enables this to happen in our own backyard. “Football is not just a game in Mt Roskill; it is a vehicle for education, inspiration and opportunity. The project will provide opportunities for our young people for years to come.” added Mt Roskill Intermediate Principal Kristen Walsham.

The project embodies a spirit of collaboration through strong community partnerships. Mt Roskill Intermediate wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Kris Bright and Ivan Vuksich of Auckland City FC for their outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment in driving this project forward. Their vision and dedication have been instrumental in reaching this stage. Mt Roskill Intermediate also gratefully acknowledges the essential support of the Ministry of Education. Special recognition is due to Amanda Still, Infrastructure Manager, and Eric Shu, Property Advisor for the Roskill Campus schools. Their guidance and advocacy have been critical in securing the Ministry’s support for the project.
