Message from the Principal
The year has certainly taken off with a sprint with a large number of activities now well underway! The students have settled in well and there is a really lovely feeling evident across the school.

Thank you for taking the time to come along to our recent 'Meet the Teacher Evening'. It was great to meet new families and reconnect with others. Please feel free to make contact with your child's teacher with any issues or questions that you may have.

Coming up on the 5th and 6th March, we have Learning Conversations - Talanoa Ako, where the teacher will meet with you and your child to reflect on where they are with their learning and set new goals for the first part of this year to work towards. Here is a link to the letter that was sent out this week via the SchoolApp and email that has further information with the booking details.
On Wednesday 5th March, we will also be holding Parent Workshops over three different session times to go over the Refreshed NZ Curriculum changes. Please see the attached flyer below. Sessions will last approximately 45 minutes. School will finish at 12pm on Wednesday 5th March.
Over the last couple of weeks your child will have had a number of learning assessments. This information helps us to plan the learning for your child to ensure that they are both supported and challenged in their learning. Our learning programmes develop the skills that students need not just for now, but the type of thinking that is needed to be successful as a good learner.

ACFC, FIFA WORLD Club Cup Trophy Tour 2025 - Friday 14th March 2025
Auckland City Football Club (ACFC) has qualified for the first of a new format FIFA World Club Cup Competition. As part of the global FIFA Club Trophy Tour, the newly minted trophy will be showcased at Mt Roskill Intermediate School on Friday, March 14. This event highlights ACFC’s strong partnership with the school and community, supporting grassroots football development.
The event will feature a Pōwhiri welcome for FIFA representatives, followed by mini football matches and skills sessions involving ACFC’s football academy students and local schools.
An email has been sent out today with further details about this event, including permissions for filming. Parents who do not consent to their child being filmed must notify the school immediately at office@mri.school.nz.

Attendance:
We have had an excellent start to attendance, our highest day's percentage this last week was 95%! Starting this week we have been emailing an attendance letter to every family. This is to keep you informed as we all work together to have our students at school as much as possible. The attendance letter includes the percentage of days attended by your child so far in the term and the number of days missed. You will receive this letter again in Week 7 and Week 11 of Term 1.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities:
At MRI we offer a range of extra- curricular activities varying in size and commitment. It is important that the daily notices are read daily to ensure your child is aware and up to date for what is on offer at school at any one time. Applications, permission forms and expressions of interests are currently being collected for:

2025 MRI Ski Trip - A week long excursion to Queenstown including 3 days skiings. Applications can be collected from the office via the student entrance. Applications close 28th February.

2025 Sports Camp - A week long sports tournament down at Totara Spring. Applications can be done online via the student notices. Applications close 28th February

2025 AIMS Games - The Zespri AIMS Games is Australasia’s largest junior sporting event, held annually in Tauranga Moana. We are seeking expressions of interest from any students and their families who would like to organise and manage a team to compete at these games.

After School Water Polo - Mrs Levy is starting water polo practice for the upcoming season. Notices can be collected from the office via the student entrance. Training starts next week, no permission no training.

If you have any questions about any of the extra-curricular activities at MRI, please contact Carl Maskell - Deputy Principal via cmaskell@mri.school.nz .
This year along with our regular counselling services we are lucky enough to have a SWIS (Social worker in Schools) onsite two and half days a week to support students and families. SWIS workers in Schools are qualified social workers who work in partnership with families and schools so children can learn, grow and thrive.

If your child/family would like support in the counselling/social worker area please contact, Deputy Principal Tracey Hughes, thughes@mri.school.nz to discuss which service might be the best fit for your child/family.
Our first House Colours Day was a lot of fun and went amazingly well today, with many students and teachers enthusiastically dressing up in their house colours!
