Message from the Principal
大家好 Dà jiā hǎo,

The year continues to fly by with Spring now officially here. The last few weeks have been action packed with many different activities taking place including Sports Camp, Production, Cultural Weeks, Speech Competitions and of course great learning!
Throughout this term and last term, our dedicated Netball players, Basketball and Water Polo teams have continued to play and represent the school week in and week out in the rain, cold, wind and sunshine.
As the playing seasons come to a close, I would like to particularly acknowledge the dedication to training and teamwork that has been evident. I am really proud of the efforts of our teams. A special thank you to the staff and the coaches who make these opportunities possible. The support from parents with encouragement and enthusiasm on the sidelines is appreciated.
Our recent production of Annie Jr was outstanding! We received many positive messages from Mt Roskill Grammar school, alumni and our wonderful community.
Our 'Annie Jr' cast were amazing and giving. In our opinion, Broadway worthy performances. We are so proud of all of our students. Each and everyone demonstrated wonderful talent through musicality, dance, performance and humour.
Memories that will last a lifetime have been created. As a group, the cast has been motivated, responsive and reliable. Special thanks to the 'Production Team' who helped create the magic through a stunning set, sound, lighting and costuming. Special thanks to Mr Liam Whitney for his exceptional direction.
Special congratulations to our team of students who represented MRI at Sports Camp in Matamata. We are the 2024 North Harbour Sports Camp Winners. Our students played hard and fair, demonstrating great sportsmanship. On the finals day, MRI qualified for 13 out of a possible 16 semi finals, before going on to compete in 10 finals. Thank you to Deputy Principal Mr Maskell, Mr Uili, Ms Golding and our parent volunteers for making this possible.
Exceptional congratulations to Yasmin Room 27, Sudena Room 12 and Shyla Room 25 our Year Seven Speech finalists. We are very proud of you all for this outstanding achievement, who placed First to third respectively.
Last but not least congratulations to Ethan Chan from Room 14 who placed Nationally 6th and 7th in Swimming at the AIMS Games. It is a huge achievement!

We would like to acknowledge our phenomenal long term coach Mr Wayne McDougall. Mr McDougall has gifted his time to coach our students for the last twelve years. He has lit a passion and love for chess in many lives. Our school and community are grateful beyond words. Over the years our chess students have achieved incredible heights, punching consistently 'well above our weight' - the common factor is Mr McDougall! His passion, talent and love of the game has been shared with thousands of students from many different schools. We are appreciative of his endless support of our school, our students and our community. Sadly, Mr McDougall is terminally ill. Thank you to the families and students that have sent cards/ letters and attended the recent thank you afternoon tea for Mr McDougall and express our gratitude to him for his service. Deputy Principal Mr Jesse McBride will be facilitating the Chess club to continue to meet and play for the near future.

Over the holiday break we have internal painting of the performing arts, visual arts, gym and hall taking place. As part of our flooding remediation from last year's floods, replacement of our cricket wicket and our school hall floor will commence. The Denbigh Ave bridge replacement plans are well underway with the Ministry of Education. We are hoping to have this completed and open to access early next year.

Have a refreshing break and thank you for your ongoing support!

Congratulations

To all our Term 3, 2024 Award Recipients!
These awards were announced at our Assembly this afternoon.

The Care2 Principal’s Award is awarded to one student per class who embodies our Care2 values consistently and constantly gives 100%.
Well done to the following Students:
A reminder that as a community we need to demonstrate our school values of Care, Respect and Responsibility when picking up and dropping off our students to school. We have had some near misses recently between cars and students. The risk is greatly reduced if we are all obeying the road rules and stopping in safe places. Also, a reminder that parking on the grass, or the side of the road is not an option when coming down our driveway. This is all said with the safety of our children in mind. Thank you.
