Last week we held our House Colours Day. It was fabulous to see students proudly connecting to their House and finding creative ways to wear their colours. The House Tug of War was a fierce competition that was a great depiction of working together and not giving up! Congratulations to everyone involved, their effort and House spirit.

Coming up on the 18th and 19th March, we have Learning Conversations - Talanoa Ako, where your child’s teacher will meet with you and your child. Booking information will come out next week.
With the new curriculum and Reporting, this will take a new format as there is still information to come from the Ministry of Education that will allow schools to be able to make an accurate judgement against the new progress descriptors. On Wednesday 18 March, we will be holding Parent Workshops over two different session times to go over the NZ Curriculum changes and implications for Reporting. We will also provide resources to support your child's learning at home. Please see the attached flyer below. Sessions will last approximately 45 minutes. School will finish at 12pm on Wednesday 18th March.
Over the last couple of weeks your child will have had a number of learning assessments. This information helps us to plan the learning for your child, against the new curriculum progressions and to ensure that they are both supported and challenged in their learning. Our learning programmes develop the skills that students need not just for now, but the type of thinking that is needed to be successful as a good learner.
This year our Art Week is taking place in Term 1. Your child will get to create one of their chosen options during art week. Work is then created into an Art Exhibition. Please note the day and come along to see the wonderful creativity of our students.
We have had an excellent start to attendance, our highest day's percentage this last week was 94%! Starting this week we have been emailing an attendance letter to every family. This is to keep you informed as we all work together to have our students at school as much as possible. The attendance letter includes the percentage of days attended so far in the term and the number of days missed. You will receive this letter again in Week 6 and Week 9 of Term 1.
On the 2nd, 9th and 10th of March we will have the team from 'EaseUp', delivering interactive education to our students about the harmful effects of vaping. 'EaseUp' is a non-profit youth mental health and addictions organisation. They work with schools around Auckland, delivering messages to young people about addiction and harmful substances, as well as one-on-one with young people requiring extra support.
There will be four sessions that a class moves through.
These sessions are part of our Health curriculum. If you have any questions please ask Deputy Principal, Jesse McBride jmcbride@mri.school.nz. He'll be happy to answer them.
