Message from the Principal
Welcome back to Term Three!

Last week we held our School Open Days which showcased the many and varied opportunities for prospective families that we have to offer at Mount Roskill Intermediate School. We appreciate the involvement of our wonderful students that took on the role of tour guides, highlighting different curriculum and extra-curricular areas and representing our school well. We are looking forward to welcoming current year 6 students to MRI next year.
This is the time of year where we analyse our school achievement and progress data. This helps us to continue to target and ensure that students are making the most progress possible. It is encouraging to see the progress evident across the core learning areas. Many of you may have read the current media reporting around National Mathematics achievement. We wish to reassure you that the achievement of our students is far higher than what is being quoted. The majority of our students are achieving at or above what is expected for the year level. We know that a couple of things help to make the difference in learning: your child specifically knowing what they need to work on (their learning goals) and families being involved in the learning of their children. Thank you for your involvement in the recent Talanoa Ako Learning Conversations this week. If you have been unable to meet with your child’s teacher, please make contact with them to find a time when they can meet with you and your child.

We recently participated in the South Auckland Pasifika Mathematics Competition, organised by the University of Auckland. Our teams placed first and second in the competition, moving on to represent Central Auckland in the upcoming wider Auckland competition. We are very proud of our students who participated!

Next week we will hold a shared Mt Roskill Campus Pasifika event to support enrolment processes of our campus families. A JP will attend to notorize any documents needed for MRGS enrolment. Our Culture Group will perform a short bracket as part of the evening. Please see the flyer below for details.
Also coming up this term is a Campus Music Evening, hosted at Mt Roskill Grammar School in the Butler Hall. This will be the first time since the lockdown years that we have held a shared Campus Music event. It will take place during Week 5 this term and will feature performances and musical items from across our Campus Schools. Please see the flyer below for details.
Not long now for our upcoming school production of “Annie” happening this term. Our Production team have been working hard in rehearsals and the stage is starting to come together well. Tickets will go on sale in Week 5, so be sure to get yours early to avoid missing out and to support our talented performers.
Special congratulations goes to our chess team who have qualified for the Chess Power Nationals. Well done! This will be held later this term.
And also a special congratulations to Kaaveya and Chloe from Room 22 who have been selected to represent New Zealand at the World Karate Cup 2024 in Sydney, Australia. This is a fantastic achievement! We wish you all the best for a successful competition.
